I’ve been following this whole $TRUMP -token narrative since the early hype phase — back when people were calling it “political alpha” and the January 2025 rally made it look like branding alone could create billions in value.
That phase feels over now.
What we’re seeing today doesn’t look like a simple pullback. It looks more like exhaustion. The kind where the story weakens first… and price quietly follows.
Let’s talk numbers.
The TRUMP memecoin fell from above $73 in January 2025 to roughly the low-$2 range by early 2026. That’s a massive drawdown — well over 90%. Even hovering slightly higher doesn’t change the bigger picture. The damage is already done.
And honestly, the chart alone doesn’t tell the full story.
What really caught my attention was the on-chain activity. Wallets connected to the project moved millions of tokens to exchanges earlier this year. When large supply suddenly appears on exchange liquidity, it rarely happens by accident. It usually signals positioning for exits or distribution.
At the same time, insiders reportedly held a very large portion of the supply. When ownership becomes that concentrated, the market dynamic changes completely. It stops behaving like a free market and starts looking more like a distribution cycle — where retail buys the narrative while early holders gradually sell into demand.
We’ve seen this pattern many times in crypto.
Then there’s the $WLFI situation, which added another layer of concern. A wallet tied to the project reportedly used its own token as collateral to borrow tens of millions in stablecoins. When a low-liquidity asset becomes collateral for real liquidity, it introduces risk that goes beyond normal price volatility.
Price reacted exactly how markets usually react in these situations — with heavy downside pressure. And once collateral risk enters the conversation, the possibility of cascading liquidations becomes part of the narrative.
People compared the structure to borrowing real money against self-issued chips. Whether you agree with that comparison or not, it explains why confidence started fading.
The $MELANIA token tells a similar story. Its price collapse has been even more dramatic, and what stands out most is how little reaction there’s been to major headlines. At one time, attention alone could move these tokens. Now even major visibility doesn’t seem to shift sentiment much.
That shift is important.
Because when attention stops moving price, it usually means trust has weakened.
Zooming out, the numbers being discussed across these tokens suggest large losses for retail participants while early wallets captured significant gains. When markets start to feel like a transfer of wealth instead of a growth story, sentiment changes fast.
Then came the political angle.
A planned conference tied attendance perks to token holdings, creating a leaderboard-style incentive to buy and hold. That blurred the line between investment and access in a way that made many observers uncomfortable. It introduced a new question: who is actually benefiting from this structure?
And that’s where the narrative really shifted.
The conversation moved from excitement to skepticism.
Because when you strip away the branding, the politics, and the headlines, what remains are familiar crypto warning signs: concentrated supply, aggressive insider behavior, thin liquidity, and fading retail demand.
