Analysts at J.P. Morgan stated that Bitcoin has begun to outperform gold as an investment option for hedging against currency depreciation, especially following tensions related to the Iran conflict, at a time when global markets are witnessing a clear shift in investor behavior.
The bank’s analysts explained that Bitcoin-related investment funds recorded positive capital inflows for the third consecutive month in May, while gold funds continue to struggle in recovering outflows that began in March amid rising geopolitical tensions.
The report noted that this shift reflects a growing trend among retail investors toward Bitcoin as a hedge against currency depreciation, compared to gold, which has historically been the most common safe-haven asset during periods of instability.
Hedging against currency depreciation refers to investors turning to alternative assets such as Bitcoin or gold to protect their savings from the declining value of fiat currencies during economic crises or geopolitical tensions.
Analysts added that the gap between Bitcoin and gold performance has become more evident since the beginning of the Iran conflict, as liquidity has gradually shifted toward Bitcoin, indicating a change in global investor behavior.
Demand for Bitcoin has not been limited to retail investors only but has also extended to institutional investors, as Bitcoin futures reached new record levels, reflecting increased institutional exposure to the digital asset.
The report also noted that some major investment firms have significantly increased their Bitcoin holdings, making it one of the key assets used in long-term investment strategies amid growing interest in digital assets.
Analysts believe that continued capital inflows into Bitcoin could strengthen its position as a major alternative asset in the global financial system, especially if economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions persist in the coming period.
