🚨 BITCOIN LEVERAGE IS GETTING DANGEROUS — FUNDING RATES HIT A 20-MONTH HIGH
Bitcoin’s rally may look strong on the surface, but underneath the market, leverage is starting to flash a serious warning.
The BTC perpetual futures funding rate has climbed to its highest level in 20 months, showing that traders are becoming increasingly aggressive with long positions.
And this is where things get interesting.
High funding doesn’t automatically mean Bitcoin will dump. It means the market is becoming increasingly expensive for traders betting on further upside. When too many traders crowd onto the same side of the trade, even a small pullback can trigger liquidations.
That can create a nasty chain reaction:
BTC dips → leveraged longs get liquidated → selling pressure increases → more longs get liquidated.
The bullish trend can remain intact, but excessive leverage can turn a normal correction into a violent move.
So I’m not looking at funding rates as a simple “bearish signal.”
I’m looking at them as a risk meter.
If BTC continues higher while funding cools down, that would be a much healthier setup.
But if price keeps pushing up while funding stays extremely elevated and open interest continues expanding, the market could be setting itself up for a brutal leverage flush.
