But look at the actual active pools on $TMX and most of the liquidity still clusters around short maturities — the kind that feel closer to rolling short-term rate locks than the multi-month or multi-year instruments traditional fixed income is built on.
TermMax’s infrastructure can handle longer-dated terms. The design supports it. Usage just hasn’t reached for them yet. That gap between what the protocol can do and what the market currently does is more revealing than the roadmap language.
Compare it to how Pendle splits yield across defined expiries that people actually hold to maturity, or how Notional historically pushed fixed terms further out. Right now TermMax activity looks more like short-cycle rate locking than a fully formed on-chain fixed income curve.
That’s not a flaw. It’s just the current behavior sitting on top of the mechanism. The infrastructure for a longer curve is already there before the demand for one. The open question is whether the gap closes because users change, or because the product does.
