$VIX sitting at 14.84 — down 3% on the week, now under all four moving averages. That's textbook complacency. Market's in full carry mode, no fear, everyone's comfortable.

But here's the setup: banks report Tuesday, CPI prints Wednesday, and Monday's a bond market holiday. Thin liquidity into a hot data point is never boring.

If CPI runs even slightly warm, hedges get bid fast. $VIX could snap 2–3 handles in minutes. I'm not saying we're crashing — I'm saying protection is cheap right now and the timing's obvious.

Playing it simple: buying $SPY puts into Wednesday, dated through Friday. Small size, defined risk. If CPI's cool, I eat the premium. If it's hot, the move pays 3x–5x easy.

Calm markets don't stay calm through surprise prints. Structure says carry, but the calendar says hedge. I'm paying for protection.
