The New York Stock Exchange has reportedly spent the past year testing Avalanche technology as it explores infrastructure for tokenized stocks and ETFs.
Ava Labs President Charley Cooper said NYSE and Ava Labs have developed a close working relationship, with the exchange evaluating both Avalanche's technology and the economics of integrating it into its existing systems.
But there is an important detail here.
NYSE hasn't selected Avalanche yet.
The exchange is still evaluating different blockchain networks for its planned tokenized securities platform, which is designed to support onchain settlement, fractional shares and potentially 24/7 trading.
And this is where the development gets interesting.
NYSE isn't experimenting with some random crypto use case. One of the world's largest traditional exchanges is actively exploring blockchain as part of the infrastructure behind securities markets.
Personally, I think that's the bigger signal.
The RWA narrative becomes much more serious when traditional financial institutions aren't just issuing tokenized assets, but actually testing blockchains for the underlying market infrastructure.
Avalanche getting tested by NYSE doesn't guarantee adoption.
But the fact that NYSE is spending a year testing blockchain infrastructure tells you where the conversation is heading.
The question now is simple:
Which blockchain actually ends up handling the financial rails?
