BlockBeats news, on August 28, according to an official announcement, the U.S. Department of Commerce today announced that it will begin releasing actual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data on the blockchain starting from July 2025. According to the revised estimates released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the GDP growth rate for July 2025 is projected to be 3.3% on an annualized basis. This is the first time a federal agency has released economic statistics in this manner on the blockchain, and it is the latest initiative by the Department of Commerce to leverage innovative technology to protect federal data and promote public use.
The Department of Commerce has released the official hash values for the quarterly GDP data for 2025 (including total GDP data in some cases) to the following nine blockchains: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, TRON, Stellar, Avalanche, Arbitrum One, Polygon PoS, and Optimism. At the same time, these data are further disseminated through coordination with the Pyth and Chainlink oracles. Trading platforms Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken assisted in facilitating the Department of Commerce’s data release. The Department of Commerce will also continue to innovate and expand the scope of future data releases (such as GDP), including the use of more blockchains, oracles, and trading platforms.
Through this landmark initiative, the Department of Commerce hopes to demonstrate the wide application value of blockchain technology, while providing a proof of concept for the entire government and continuing the historic effort of the Trump administration to build the United States as a global blockchain hub.
