🛡️ STOP-LOSS IN CRYPTO TRADING: PROTECT YOUR CAPITAL BEFORE CHASING PROFITS!
Want to become a better crypto trader? First, learn how to manage losses.
A stop-loss is a trading instruction designed to close a position when the price reaches a specified level. It can help limit losses, although execution price is not guaranteed during fast markets.
📌 1. WHAT IS A STOP-LOSS?
Imagine you buy Bitcoin at $100,000.
You decide that if the price falls to $98,000, your trade idea is no longer valid.
You place a stop-loss at $98,000.
If triggered and executed near that level, it helps limit your loss on the position.
📊 2. A SIMPLE EXAMPLE
Entry price: $100,000
Stop-loss price: $98,000
Price difference: 2%
If your position size is $500, a 2% price move against you represents approximately $10 in losses, before fees and slippage.
⚠️ This example excludes leverage. With leveraged trading, losses relative to your own margin can be much larger.
🎯 3. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE A STOP-LOSS?
✅ Identify a level where your trading idea becomes invalid.
✅ Consider recent support, resistance, and market volatility.
✅ Calculate your position size based on your acceptable risk.
❌ Don't place your stop-loss randomly.
❌ Don't move it farther away just because you don't want to accept a loss.
💡 4. THE GOLDEN RULE
Your goal is not to win every trade. Your goal is to manage risk so that one bad trade doesn't destroy your account.
A good trading plan includes an entry, an exit, and a risk limit BEFORE you enter the market.
