Gate.io hack steals $388 million… then hits a wall! 🧱👀
Nearly $388 million was converted into addresses controlled by the attacker following a security incident at Gate.io.
But now something completely different is happening…
The hacker is trying to move the stolen funds — and the crypto infrastructure has started to push back. 👀
A recent attempt involving nearly 100 SOL via Chainflip through an intermediary was rejected, and the funds were returned to the originating wallet.
This may be the part that traders have been missing.
It’s no longer just a simple story:
Hack → stolen funds → hacker flees
Now it’s become:
Stolen funds → traced on-chain → discovery → block & refusal
Gate.io says the incident impacted about $387.5 million, while investigations and recovery efforts are still ongoing. The exchange has also begun restoring withdrawals in stages after containing the incident.
But the biggest question here:
Can stolen crypto really be moved freely once the entire system is monitoring the wallets? 👀
