I’ve been around crypto long enough to recognize when a story is just old packaging with a new label. Most of BTCFi has felt that way to me: wrapped assets, bridges, custody promises, and the same trade-off dressed up as progress. Bitcoin is supposed to be the hard part, the part people trust. Yet every time we try to make it productive, we somehow end up asking users to give up the one thing that made it worth holding in the first place.
That’s why Babylon’s TBV caught my attention. I’m not calling it solved, and I don’t fully trust any “revolution” the first time I see it. But something about this feels different. Native BTC stays native. No detour through a wrapper. No quiet handoff to an intermediary. No pretending that extra complexity automatically means more safety. I keep noticing how rare that is.
The part that really stays with me is the separation: collateral verification here, lending execution there, and the asset itself never leaving Bitcoin’s own rails. That kind of design makes me pause. Not because it guarantees anything, but because it seems to acknowledge the real problem instead of trying to hide it.
I’ve seen this market chase narratives that eventually collapsed under their own friction. So I’m staying calm. Watching. A little skeptical. But this is one of the few BTCFi ideas in a long while that genuinely made me stop and think.
