As robots become more autonomous, a quiet question starts to appear.
How do we trust what machines are doing?
In traditional software systems, verification is often easier. Logs exist. Code can be audited. Outputs can sometimes be reproduced.
Physical machines are different.
Sensors can misread environments. Models behave unpredictably. Two robots facing the same situation might produce different outcomes.
I’ve been thinking about this problem recently. The more autonomy machines gain, the more important verification becomes.
