Black Monday in 1987 remains in a league of its own. A 22.61% single day crash has never been remotely matched before or since. To this day nobody has a fully agreed upon explanation for what triggered it. The 1929 crash wiped out two consecutive days in the top 5, two days apart, Black Monday followed by Black Tuesday, setting off the Great Depression.
Both COVID entries happened just four days apart in March 2020, the market's fastest ever bear market entry before the Fed intervened with unlimited quantitative easing and turned it into one of the fastest recoveries in history.
