Created by @mattgriffinart, The Visitors originally started out as cover binding concepts for the artist's Folio Society release of the novel Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. Instead of abandoning these initial designs in a folder, he took the opportunity to evolve the three concepts into entirely independent pieces of art.

These distinct pieces provide a wonderful look into his overall creative technique. To bring them to life, he merges modern digital applications, namely Blender and Photoshop, with traditional physical mediums including analogue textures, ink, and water.

The collection is made up of three specific artworks, and every piece is titled with a unique translation of the concept of a visitor spanning different eras in time. The first piece takes its name from ancient Latin. This word is ADVENA, which describes an individual who arrives from another place. The second piece is named GEST, representing the medieval foundation for the modern word guest. Rounding out the trio is ORAÍ, a completely fictional term developed by projecting Old Irish into a hypothetical future, resulting in a spoken language that no one alive today will ever actually hear.

The narrative of Rendezvous with Rama focuses heavily on the theme of arrival, detailing a massive entity that briefly appears in our view before continuing on its path. This specific concept of a traveler traversing immense distances without lingering is a consistent thread throughout the wider portfolio of the artist. Consequently, these three artworks have seamlessly integrated themselves into his continuous exploration of that very idea.
