Pakistan Becomes the World’s Third Largest Country in Cryptocurrency Use

Pakistan has emerged as the world’s third-largest market in digital currency use, with around 40 million people holding crypto accounts, according to a briefing given by PVARA Chairman Bilal Bin Saqib to the Senate Standing Committee.

He also highlighted a major gap: Pakistan has around 40 million crypto accounts, while active taxpayers are only about 5.6 million.

In my view, this shows how quickly crypto adoption has grown in Pakistan, especially among young people. The focus now should be on creating clear and transparent regulations instead of simply restricting the technology.

The authority aims to bring digital asset users into the tax system and regulate the growing virtual assets sector. Pakistan also wants to become a global leader in Islamic finance through digital assets.

Several international companies have reportedly applied for NOCs to operate in Pakistan, while strict action against illegal digital asset companies is expected after September 5.

My takeaway: Pakistan already has a huge crypto user base. With the right regulations, transparency, and investor protection, this could become a real opportunity for Pakistan’s digital economy.
