๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ What if Europe had said YES to Putinโ€™s โ€œLisbon to Vladivostokโ€ vision?

Back in 2011, Putin proposed a massive economic space connecting Europe and Russia, stretching from Lisbon to Vladivostok. The idea included freer trade, capital flows, movement of people, and closer cooperation in energy and industry.

At the time, Europe largely continued pursuing deeper bilateral relationships with former Soviet states, while Russia developed its own Eurasian integration project.

Ukraine eventually became the major flashpoint. The competing visions of closer European integration and Moscow-led cooperation were followed by Euromaidan, Crimeaโ€™s annexation, the Donbas conflict, and ultimately Russiaโ€™s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Could a different economic path have reduced tensions and created stronger interdependence?

We canโ€™t know.

But the unanswered โ€œwhat if?โ€ remains one of Europeโ€™s biggest geopolitical questions.
