๐จ BITCOIN IS STARTING TO WORK LIKE REAL INSTITUTIONAL COLLATERAL ๐
Bitcoin doesnโt always have to be sold to unlock liquidity.
Circle ($CRCL) is opening a new route for eligible Circle Mint customers through its Digital Asset-Backed Borrowing product.
Institutions can deposit native BTC, receive cirBTC, and use that BTC-backed asset as collateral in supported lending markets to borrow USDC.
The interesting part?
They can access liquidity while continuing to maintain their BTC exposure. ๐ฅ
The basic cycle looks like this:
๐ Hold BTC
๐ Put BTC to work as collateral
๐ต Borrow USDC
๐ Use the liquidity elsewhere
โฟ Keep the Bitcoin position
At launch, the system supports Arc and Ethereum, with Morpho currently serving as the first approved third-party lending protocol. Circle has also indicated that more protocols, including Aave, may be added later.
cirBTC is designed to remain backed 1:1 by native Bitcoin, with onchain reserves intended to provide greater transparency and verifiability.
This could be an important step for Bitcoinโs role in onchain credit markets.
Instead of simply holding BTC in a wallet, institutions can potentially use their Bitcoin as productive collateralโwithout giving up their underlying exposure.
Bitcoin isnโt just an asset to hold anymore.
Itโs increasingly becoming an asset that can be put to work. ๐๐ฅ
