Bitget just got hit for $350M+
Ok, so this just happened - Bitget (one of the bigger exchanges) lost somewhere around $350-380M out of its hot wallets this week. Not a private key leak either, which honestly would've been worse. Attackers got into a backend system and basically tricked the exchange's own signing process into moving funds out.
Small silver lining - Circle and Tether managed to freeze about $318K of the stolen stablecoins within hours. Not much next to the total, sure, but it's proof freezing tools actually work fast when issuers jump on it quick.
The part that actually matters for us though? Cold wallets weren't touched. Only the hot side got hit. "Spending hot, savings cold" isn't just something I tell you guys-turns out exchanges live by the same rule.

The Secondhand Hardware Wallet Trap:
Honestly, this one never crossed my mind until someone brought it up: buying a hardware wallet secondhand. Even the ones that show up "factory sealed."
Here's the part that got me. Someone could reseal the box with a seed phrase already loaded on the device, then just wait. You open it, set it up, fund it, feeling great about your new security upgrade... and they had the keys before you ever touched the box. Looks brand new. It isn't!
So now I'm curious...now that you know this can happen, would you still buy one secondhand if it looked sealed?
