US cryptocurrency mining firms have raised concerns over the legality of the US Energy Information Administration's (EIA) emergency survey on energy consumption and sources. The EIA aims to develop a "baseline snapshot" of electricity usage by local mining firms, but industry representatives suspect political motivations behind the survey. Texas Blockchain Council president Lee Bratcher calls it a "politically motivated campaign against Bitcoin mining" and an abuse of authority. Others question why the EIA has not imposed similar measures on other energy-intensive industries in the US.
