Coinspeaker Optimism Distributes Fifth Airdrop: 10.3 Million Tokens to Superchain Users
Layer 2 network Optimism has launched its fifth airdrop, aimed at distributing 10.3 million OP tokens to more than 54,700 user addresses. The airdrop is valued at approximately $16 million, and is one major way that Optimism has been using to reward its most active users on the Superchain, an interconnected ecosystem of blockchains built using the OP Stack technology.
According to the L2 network, this latest airdrop rewarded users according to their level of activity across such chains as the ones mentioned above. They include popular networks such as Base, OP Mainnet, Mode, Zora, Cyber, Metal, Fraxtal, Redstone, Mint, Swan, BOB, Lisk, Xterio, Derive, Race, Orderly, and Polynomial.
An official statement from Optimism reads in part:
“Airdrop #5 rewards power users who have contributed to the growth of the Superchain Ecosystem.”
Optimism Airdrop Targets Active Users across Multiple Blockchains
Notably, Optimism’s airdrops are nearly becoming a routine. They are the network’s strategy to build an ecosystem that revolves around users.
However, it appears that Optimism is looking to do things a little bit differently this time. That is, considering what it considered for users to be eligible for the latest round of token rewards.
Wallets that have interacted with at least 20 different contracts on any Superchain network between March 15 and September 15, 2024, were eligible to receive a portion of the tokens.
In addition to the base requirements for eligibility, some users also qualified for extra tokens. That is, by meeting additional criteria.
A good example of such a group of users is those who delegated a minimum amount of OP tokens or interacted with at least seven chains on the Superchain. These users were able to boost their individual allocations.
Per Optimism, recipients of the airdrop have until February 13, 2025, to claim their OP tokens.
Efforts So Far
To date, the network has distributed over 265 million OP tokens across five different airdrops. However, it is still not done. According to Optimism, there are still around 550 million OP tokens left in its reserves for future distributions.
Nonetheless, the network has achieved some amazing results since its first airdrop took place in May 2022. The second followed in February 2023 and the third in September 2023. By this time, Optimism had distributed 19.4 million OP tokens (worth $26 million at the time) to around 32,000 addresses.
Notably, recipients of the airdrops have always been actively involved in the Optimism Collective delegation activities.
The fourth airdrop occurred in February 2024, and this latest rollout continues to build on the momentum.
