Peter Todd Refuses Bitcoin's Satoshi Nakamoto: The Theory Persists
HBO documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery claimed Peter Todd is Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, sparking a Twitter frenzy. Todd disputed the assertion, but the rumor continues.
Leaked (since removed) HBO documentary footage from October 8 implied Bitcoin Core engineer Peter Todd was Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin's founder. Journalists worldwide investigated when Todd promptly disputed the charges.
The latest assertion from @tier10k shows HBO's claims may be accurate. The X post suggests, “In 2010, Todd (from a new account) replies to Satoshi on bitcointalk; HBO claims he accidentally finished Satoshi’s post from his own account”.
Both accounts halted activity a few days after Todd inadvertently used his account to finish Satoshi Nakamoto's message, supporting this assertion. Todd also applied the post's “Replace by Fee” (RBF) idea.
Db noted another coincidence suggesting Todd was Satoshi: a document supplier said Todd promoted RBF under the alias “John Dillon” and both used British/Canadian spellings.
Satoshi Nakamoto posts more on weekends, matching the student's timetable. Finally, db stated that Todd had discussed “sacrificing” Bitcoin, which may mean destroying Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin.
Since db found some validity in HBO's assertions, the belief that Peter Todd is Satoshi Nakamoto has grown. Bitcoin is trading at $62,343.49 following a 0.47% drop in the prior day after hitting $64k on October 7.
