🇺🇦 Ukraine Signals Temporary Pause in Strikes as Peace Talks Resume
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine is ready to temporarily halt strikes on Moscow through Monday, September 7, as diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war intensify.
Zelenskyy said he had spoken with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump’s team and confirmed that Ukraine was prepared to refrain from strikes on Moscow during the negotiation period. He also expressed hope that Russia would take reciprocal action and avoid strikes on Kyiv.
The announcement comes as U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on September 6 for talks with Zelenskyy. Their visit followed a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, as Washington attempts to restart stalled peace negotiations.
The temporary pause is intended to create space for diplomacy while the U.S. team engages with both sides. Zelenskyy said Ukraine is prepared for substantive discussions and has proposals aimed at achieving a lasting and dignified peace.
However, this development should not be viewed as a full ceasefire or a peace agreement. Military operations and attacks continue in other areas, while major disagreements remain between Russia and Ukraine, particularly over territory and security guarantees.
Still, the temporary restraint around Moscow and Kyiv could provide an important window for negotiations.
Key takeaway: Ukraine has signaled a limited pause in strikes through Monday, while U.S. envoys are working directly with Kyiv and Moscow to push the peace process forward.
