People often say, (Your keys, your Bitcoin). I think many people understand the words, but not the real meaning.
After learning about @BabylonLabs_io and Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV), I realized that self-custody is about who controls your Bitcoin, not about removing every risk. TBV is designed to let you use native Bitcoin as collateral without wrapping, bridging, or trusting a centralized company.
That is an important difference. But it doesn't mean borrowing becomes risk-free. If the price of Bitcoin drops too much, your position can still be liquidated. That is how collateralized borrowing works in most DeFi systems. So TBV changes how Bitcoin is used, but it doesn't remove the normal risks of borrowing. That's why I think the Public Testnet is useful. Instead of only reading about TBV, people can try it, understand how it works, and share feedback before the full launch.
