House Democrats Urge Testimony From OpenAI And Anthropic Leaders After Hacking Incidents
According to CNBC, a group of House Democrats is pressing the leaders of OpenAI, Anthropic and other major artificial intelligence companies to testify before Congress after a string of hacking incidents they say have serious implications for Americans' safety and security. The lawmakers wrote to House Speaker Mike Johnson in a letter sent Monday, saying Congress has so far failed to respond to the risks tied to AI development and that the CEOs of the largest AI companies should answer questions under oath, along with independent experts on the dangers posed by the technology. They said the recent breaches were serious and could be a warning of bigger problems if these models keep advancing without regulation. The letter was led by Rep. Greg Casar of Texas and signed mostly by members of the party's progressive wing.
