Bitcoin aims for one block roughly every ten minutes, however many miners join or leave. The mechanism is the difficulty adjustment: every 2,016 blocks - about two weeks - the network checks how fast blocks arrived and resets the target. If blocks came too quickly, mining gets harder; too slowly, it gets easier. That is why a surge of new mining hardware does not release coins faster than planned - the rules simply raise the bar. A small piece of code doing a big job: keeping the issuance schedule predictable without anyone in charge of it. 💬 Did you know Bitcoin retunes its own difficulty every two weeks?
