In recent years, cryptocurrencies have proven they are not immune to geopolitical shocks. Every escalation of conflict in the Middle East triggers sharp swings in Bitcoin and Ethereum prices, as investors rush toward traditional safe havens like gold or the U.S. dollar.
- Sharp declines: For instance, during a recent escalation, Bitcoin dropped nearly $4,000 within days, highlighting the market’s fragility in the face of sudden news.
- Different reaction than traditional markets: While equities and bonds often show relative stability, digital assets tend to react more violently, reflecting their high-risk nature and reliance on investor sentiment.
- Altcoins under pressure: Smaller cryptocurrencies (Altcoins) usually experience even greater volatility, amplifying risks during times of crisis.
