AI can change the world and still leave investors holding overpriced stocks.
Yesterday, the Nasdaq fell 5.5%, semiconductors dropped roughly 12%, and Bitcoin was dragged toward $75K.
Is the AI bubble cracking? Here is my thesis. 👇
I have been skeptical of AI valuations for a while. The technology has enormous potential. My concern is how much future success investors have already paid for.
A great company can still be a terrible investment at the wrong price.
The market is asking tougher questions about the returns on massive spending on chips, power and data centers.
Funding concerns were already building. Fears that the election results could delay data-center expansion added pressure. Nvidia fell around 9% yesterday; AMD lost roughly 17%.
My hypothesis: parts of the sector were priced for uninterrupted growth. At those valuations, even a delay can force a painful repricing.
Why does Bitcoin get hit?
During sharp selloffs, investors cut risk and unwind positions. BTC remains exposed to that behavior, while crypto leverage can amplify the move.
Yesterday’s decline liquidated more than $1 billion in leveraged crypto positions, mostly longs. Strong conviction does little for a position the exchange forcibly closes.
Today added another complication: US payrolls rose by 165,000 versus 65,000 expected, with unemployment at 4.1%. That could give the Fed more room to remain restrictive.
One brutal session does not prove the entire AI bubble has burst. It does expose how fragile expectations can become when valuations leave little room for disappointment.
My long-term crypto view remains constructive. I prefer building positions gradually and keeping liquidity available while the market finds its footing.
The revolution can continue while overpriced investments struggle.
Being right about the technology is only half the trade. The price you pay matters.
A healthy reset—or the start of a bigger unwind?
