An arbitrage trade may be worth paying extra to get ahead of competing transactions. An ordinary transfer may be able to wait. The sender can make that choice transaction by transaction in the Priority Gas Auction mechanism described in Arbitrum's September 24, 2026 guide for Arbitrum One.
A tip lets an urgent transaction compete for earlier execution. If a round cannot fit every transaction, those left queued gain a virtual priority boost that accumulates across rounds, including for zero-tip transactions, without increasing the fee charged to the sender.
There is still a cutoff: a transaction arriving after a round starts has to wait for the next one. A bigger tip cannot get it into the round already underway.
