Your stock dividends could soon be buying Bitcoin automatically.
Franklin Templeton filed a Form 8-A on Oct 22 to list two "Bitcoin DRIP" ETFs on Nasdaq, with an Oct 27 effective date:
• FBEQ: 500 largest US stocks, 0.09% fee
• FIBT: 100 largest non-financial Nasdaq names, 0.19% fee
How it works (per the filings and reporting):
• Starts at 95% stocks / 5% $BTC
• Every dividend gets reinvested into BTC exposure the next market open
• Quarterly rebalance trims BTC back to 4.5% if it runs above 5%
• BTC exposure comes via ETPs/futures, not coins held on-chain
My take: the 5% sleeve is small, but the design matters. It turns dividend income into a recurring BTC bid inside a plain equity wrapper, with no exchange account or wallet needed.
Bull case: steady, price-insensitive buying that grows if assets grow.
Bear case: a new fund with no disclosed seed size, and the rebalancing caps mean it can also sell BTC.
Context: BTC ~$81,438 on Binance (06:21 KST Oct 24), -0.12% 24h, ~11.6K BTC traded, while spot BTC ETFs bled $635M on Oct 22.
Note: a Form 8-A is a listing step, not SEC approval.
Would you hold BTC this way, or keep it separate?
