How a token buyback differs from a burn A buyback and a burn can be linked, but they describe different actions. A **buyback** is the acquisition of tokens using funds allocated for that purpose. A **burn** removes tokens from usable supply, often through a documented burn function or an address from which they cannot be spent.
Some programs use revenue to buy tokens and then burn the acquired units. Other programs may burn treasury tokens or use a different supply mechanism. The details must be verified rather than inferred from a headline.
When checking an event, separate the funding source, amount spent, number of tokens acquired, and number actually burned. A quoted market value for burned tokens is not necessarily the cash spent to acquire them.
Confirm the official announcement, transaction record, token contract, and burn mechanism. Neither a buyback nor a burn alone guarantees a particular market-price outcome.
