📉 Weekend U.S. Market Recap | Tech Stocks Sell Off as the Market Cools Down
Happy weekend, everyone.
I think today’s market deserves a few quick thoughts.
All three major indexes closed lower. The Dow finished at 52,002.41, down 0.34%, the S&P 500 fell 1.09%, and the Nasdaq dropped 2.14%.
Looking at the indexes alone, it’s clear that technology stocks took the most pressure today.
I’ve always believed that you can’t judge the market simply by whether the indexes are up or down. What matters more is what money is selling and where that money is rotating. Today’s capital flows sent a fairly clear message — risk appetite is declining.
On one side, continued tensions in the Middle East are weighing on market sentiment, while oil climbed 3.87% to $101.76. With oil back above $100, investors naturally have to reassess inflation risks and how much flexibility the Federal Reserve has with monetary policy.
At the same time, AI, semiconductor, and other high-valuation technology stocks that had previously delivered strong gains came under noticeable selling pressure. The Nasdaq significantly underperforming the Dow is another sign that investors are actively reducing exposure to higher-beta assets.
Another signal I’m watching closely is the 21.45% jump in the VIX, while gold gained 0.47%.
Taken together, I see the current market environment as a clear repricing of risk, rather than simply another down day
