DeepSeek Updates Its AI Model : Better Coding Performance Without Higher API Prices?
DeepSeek has upgraded its V4.1 Flash model to DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017, announced on October 17. The update focuses on coding, reasoning and AI-agent performance, alongside the opening of its in-house Search API capabilities.
According to DeepSeek’s official changelog, the updated model achieved a 77.0 score on DeepSWE v1.1, compared with 74.2 for the previous version. It also reported improvements on coding and automation benchmarks, with shorter outputs and faster task completion. Importantly, the API calling method and pricing remain unchanged.
My take: The bigger story is efficiency. AI models become more useful when they can handle complex tasks with less time and fewer resources, especially for developers building autonomous agents. Keeping API prices unchanged while improving performance could also make the update attractive to existing users.
However, benchmark gains alone don't prove better results in every real-world application. Reliability, accuracy and actual operating costs still matter.
Do you think efficient AI models will put more pressure on expensive AI services?
