$NEAR ’s year-to-date high is the headline. The leverage behind it is the trade.

$NEAR reached about $5.97 and gained 13.2% over 24 hours. Spot volume rose, but derivatives still dominate: perpetual open interest is $3.367B, equal to 43.49% of market cap, while perpetual volume is 28.9 times spot volume. The eight-hour funding rate is positive at 0.0129%.

That does not invalidate the breakout. It defines confirmation. Healthy continuation would see price hold while open interest stops accelerating and spot volume stays active. If price stalls as open interest keeps building, late longs become fuel for a squeeze.

The whale-profit screenshots are noise. The next signal is whether spot demand can carry a derivatives-heavy move.
