Ledger’s latest wallet incident is not mainly a software story. It is a supply-chain story.

#Ledger confirmed that one affected device contained an unauthorized hardware implant after reports of losses tied to devices sold by Southeast Asian reseller #CryptoBilis . The company asked the reseller to pause sales and shipments while it investigates.

That changes the practical lesson. A #hardware wallet only removes exchange and browser #Risk if the device itself is trusted. Anyone who recently bought through that reseller should not initialize it. If it has already been used, Ledger’s guidance is to move funds to a fresh device using a newly generated recovery phrase, not the old seed.

The important boundary is provenance: buy directly or from a currently verified channel, inspect packaging and device integrity, and treat any pre-initialized or modified unit as compromised. Self-custody is only as strong as the hardware supply chain.
