Zcash Feels Like Crypto in 2019, Says Gemini Co-Founder Tyler Winklevoss

Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder of Gemini, says the excitement surrounding Zcash (ZEC) reminds him of the cryptocurrency market in 2019.

Winklevoss made the comment as Zcash has returned to the spotlight, with investors showing renewed interest in privacy-focused cryptocurrencies and zero-knowledge technology.

Zcash, launched in 2016, uses zero-knowledge proofs to enable transactions with enhanced privacy. After years of regulatory pressure and delistings affecting privacy coins, ZEC has staged a strong comeback in 2026.

ZEC started the year around $511 before falling to roughly $191 in February. The token then rallied sharply, breaking above $1,000 in September and reaching $1,400 on Sept. 30.

Gemini has maintained a long-standing relationship with Zcash. The exchange became the first licensed U.S. exchange to offer ZEC trading and custody in 2018.

Winklevoss’s comparison to 2019 highlights the renewed market attention toward privacy, zero-knowledge technology and crypto infrastructure, although his comment does not represent a price prediction for $ZEC .
