US authorities have charged Vietnamese national Trung Nguyen Van, alleging his crypto wallets received roughly $53 million tied to “pig butchering” scams targeting Americans since 2018.
One victim allegedly lost around $16 million after being directed to a fake crypto investment platform called “Triangle.”
According to federal authorities, the funds were moved into private wallets immediately after they were received.
The scam model is brutally simple.
First comes the friendship.

Then an investment opportunity that looks legitimate.
Victims are gradually pushed to deposit more and more money into a fake crypto platform.
