Warren Buffett is stepping down as Berkshire Hathaway chairman today, at 96.

His son Howard takes over as chairman, following a succession plan that has been in place for years. Warren becomes chairman emeritus right away and stays on the board, and Sue Decker remains lead independent director. It comes just over nine months after Greg Abel became CEO.

In his letter to shareholders, Buffett wrote: "Father Time always wins. He has, however, been generous with me."
