South Korea tightens conditions on $350 billion US investment package

🇰🇷 President Lee Jae-myung said commercial viability remains a key sticking point in negotiations over South Korea’s $350 billion investment package in the US, even as the two sides move closer to an agreement.

💰 Seoul wants projects to provide a clear path to capital recovery, while also defining how profits and losses will be shared. The investment package is tied to the trade agreement that lowered US tariffs on South Korean goods to 15%, with $150 billion expected to be allocated to shipbuilding.

🏭 Lee also stressed that further US expansion by Samsung and SK Hynix must be balanced against South Korea’s domestic industrial strategy. The next phase of negotiations could remain relevant for US–Korea investment expectations and the Korean won.
