Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong says the U.S. crypto industry cannot wait indefinitely for Congress to establish new rules.
His comments came after the CLARITY Act failed to advance in the Senate, falling short of the 60 votes needed to move forward.
Armstrong said the SEC and CFTC already have tools under existing authority that could be used to create clearer rules for the crypto industry.
“We can’t wait on Congress anymore.”
He added that “clarity is coming to crypto regardless,” suggesting that regulatory progress could continue even without immediate passage of the legislation.
The development comes at an important moment for the U.S. digital asset industry, as exchanges, investors and crypto companies continue seeking greater regulatory certainty.
Meanwhile, the Senate setback has added uncertainty around the future path of comprehensive U.S. crypto market structure legislation.
