Iran’s Revolutionary Guard grabbed a $2.5 million Anduril Dive-LD near the Strait of Hormuz and showed it off on state TV.
Iran made the capture sound pretty dramatic, calling it a “mastermind operation.”
The U.S. tells a very different story.
CENTCOM says the drone had malfunctioned and was basically dead in the water for more than a day before Iran picked it up.
But now Iran has the hardware either way.
Experts say Tehran can study everything from its navigation and communications to its power supply and sensors.
The encrypted software is probably out of reach, but even the hardware could help Iran improve its own underwater drones.
Or at the very least, learn a little more about the ones it might face.
