URGENT: A $130 MILLION BITCOIN EXPLOIT JUST FORCED COLDCARD TO CHANGE HOW SEEDS ARE CREATED.
Coldcard has released emergency firmware after a major Bitcoin theft exposed a serious weakness in seed generation.
The fix is extreme by design:
Users must now add their own randomness when generating a new seed.
That means:
65 key presses.
50 dice rolls.
Or 128 coin flips.
And there is an even bigger warning.
If you generated a Coldcard seed between 2021 and July 2026, Coinkite says you should create a completely new seed and move your Bitcoin immediately.
This is not about Bitcoin's blockchain being hacked.
It is about the security of the device used to generate the keys controlling your Bitcoin.
Coinkite says law enforcement is actively investigating the thefts.
The uncomfortable lesson:
A hardware wallet can be extremely secure and still fail if its randomness is compromised.
Your Bitcoin may be on-chain.
But the security of your Bitcoin starts with one thing:
How unpredictable your private key actually is.
