**Hard lesson learned: Almost lost everything by trading off-app**
Sharing this so others stay alert when trading P2P!
I had matched an order to buy USDT on Binance P2P, and the seller messaged me privately through chat: "Hey, trading in the app has high fees, let's talk on Zalo instead, it's easier — I'll cancel the order in the app and send it to you directly, the price will even be better." Seeing a slightly better price, and used to the idea of "just handling it off-app for convenience," I agreed and added them on Zalo to continue the conversation.
The seller sent me their bank account number, and I transferred the agreed amount. Right after I sent it, they said "let me check, then I'll send the USDT to your wallet" — and then went silent. No replies to messages, no answer on calls, and then they blocked me on Zalo entirely. That's when I panicked and went back to the Binance app to find the order, only to discover it had already been cancelled — there was no record, no transaction history, nothing saved on the platform at all. No order meant nothing to dispute, and no support team could step in to help.
That's when it hit me: by stepping outside the app to trade, I had stripped away the only layer of protection I ever had in the entire transaction.
**Lessons learned:**
- Keep every conversation and transaction inside the Binance app — never chat or transfer money through another channel
- If someone suggests cancelling the order to trade privately "for convenience" or "a better price," that's almost always a scam red flag
- Only the app keeps transaction history, evidence, and a dispute process to protect you
- A slightly better price is never worth risking your entire transaction
One moment of chasing a better deal cost me everything. Hope no one else gets lured off the app like I did!
