There’s a type of scam that very few people talk about: the scammer makes 5, 7, even 9 genuine trades with you. Every time, they send the correct amount, from the correct name. You start to trust them. You start checking less carefully.
Then, on the 10th trade, the amount is much larger. And this time, the payment receipt is fake.
I call this the “trust-building” scam. The scammer accepts small losses on the first 9 trades to make a much bigger profit on the final one. The scary part is that the more successful trades you complete with the same person, the less cautious you become.
How to protect yourself: treat every P2P trade like it’s your first one. Even if you’ve successfully traded with the same person 100 times, on the 101st trade, you still need to log in to your banking app and verify the payment yourself.
Binance’s Escrow protects you on EVERY trade, but only as long as you haven’t clicked “Release.”
Trust is good. But on P2P, your verification process must be stronger than your trust.
