Western Union has launched StableCard, a digital wallet and VISA-branded payment card that allows users to hold, send, and spend its U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, USDPT, as the remittance giant expands into on-chain payments.

The service, developed with stablecoin infrastructure provider, Rain, is launching in 37 markets and will expand to more than 60 by year-end. Users can

  • receive Western Union transfers directly into a USDPT wallet,

  • transfer funds to compatible crypto wallets, and

  • spend balances anywhere VISA is accepted, including through Apple Pay and Google Pay.

The launch follows Western Union’s introduction of USDPT in May 2026 under the U.S. GENIUS Act framework and reflects growing adoption of stablecoins for cross-border payments.

Speaking to media, Soohoo said MoneyGram has shifted from experimenting with blockchain to integrating it into its global payments infrastructure. The company, which serves around 60 million active customers, is using blockchain to reduce settlement times and operating costs rather than promoting crypto as a consumer-facing product.
