🤖AWS grew 39% and Intel's data-center sales jumped 78%, yet both stocks fell.

Here's why

Two of the biggest AI names reported strong growth on the same night, and both stocks dropped hard. I wanted to understand why before drawing any conclusion. 🤔

📊 What Happened?
Amazon reported after the close. Revenue of $201.94 billion and EPS of $1.89 came in just below expectations of $202.10 billion and $1.96. That's a small miss, not a disaster.

The cloud numbers were strong. AWS revenue rose 39.3% to $45.98 billion, its fastest growth in nearly five years. AWS operating income was $17.8 billion, with a 38.7% margin.

💸 The Bill for AI
So why did the stock fall? Part of the answer is spending. Amazon kept its 2026 capital spending forecast at about $220 billion, and the market seems to care about what that spending costs as much as what it earns.

Amazon fell almost 10% at first after the results, then recovered to roughly 6% lower in after-hours trading. The size of the drop was reported differently by different outlets, so check a live quote.

🔌 Intel's Different Problem
Intel's story was about the forecast. It guided Q4 revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion against a $17.29 billion consensus, and adjusted EPS of $0.25 against $0.45 expected.

That came even though its data-center and AI division grew 78%. The stock dipped more than 20%. Strong demand in one corner didn't offset a weak outlook overall.

🧱 The Other Side of the Story
This wasn't a bad quarter for Amazon. Operating income rose 61%, and a Prime Day timing shift made retail growth look softer than demand. CEO Andy Jassy also projected AWS growth above 40% in both 2027 and 2028.

The sell-off may say more about how high expectations were than about weak demand.

⚠️ What It Could Mean for Risk Assets
Crypto has been moving with tech sentiment lately. Bitcoin slipped below $77,000 as investors weighed the Amazon and Intel results, alongside other news. I wouldn't blame the earnings alone, but a cooler AI trade can weigh on risk appetite.

If investors keep punishing heavy AI spending, that pressure could spread. If the dip gets bought, the story changes.

👀 Three Things to Watch Next

  1. Whether Amazon and Intel hold their post-earnings lows.

  2. How the market reacts to AI spending at the next big reports.

  3. Whether Bitcoin keeps tracking tech sentiment.

💡 The Bottom Line
Amazon's cloud business is growing at its fastest pace in almost five years, and Intel's data-center sales jumped 78%. Both stocks still fell, because spending and guidance mattered more than growth.

The real question isn't whether AI demand is real. It's how much investors will pay for it.

That's the part worth watching.
