Everyone is watching Bitcoin’s price. But the bigger question may be what happens in Washington on November 3.

The United States is heading toward its midterm elections, and the result could change the balance of power in Congress. That matters for financial markets, Wall Street and the future of cryptocurrency regulation.

And yes, Bitcoin could feel the impact.

🏛️ Why These Elections Matter

Unlike a presidential election, midterms do not decide who becomes president. They determine which party controls the House of Representatives and the Senate.

If Democrats gain control of one or both chambers, the Trump administration could face more congressional investigations and greater scrutiny of its financial and crypto policies.

Reuters reported on October 13 that a Democratic victory could increase oversight of crypto companies and the administration’s financial regulators, even if it does not automatically reverse existing regulatory policies.

For the crypto industry, that means one thing: uncertainty.

₿ What Could Happen to Bitcoin?

There are three scenarios worth watching.

1. A relief rally

If the result is clearer than expected and investors believe economic policy will remain stable, risk appetite could improve. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies might benefit.

2. A wave of volatility

If the election produces a divided Congress and uncertainty over future legislation, traders may become more cautious. Rapid price swings could follow as the market reassesses the political outlook.

3. Pressure on altcoins

Bitcoin is influenced heavily by liquidity, interest rates, the dollar and overall investor sentiment. Smaller cryptocurrencies can be more sensitive to regulatory developments.

If crypto legislation faces delays or stricter scrutiny, some altcoins and crypto-related stocks could feel more pressure than Bitcoin.

None of these scenarios is guaranteed. The market may already have priced in part of the expected result.

📉 The Historical Pattern Nobody Should Ignore

There is another reason traders are paying attention.

A recent analysis published by Moldova’s Logos Press highlighted Bitcoin’s declines following previous US midterm elections in 2014, 2018 and 2022.

But there is an important catch: three historical examples are not enough to establish a reliable trading rule. The Bitcoin halving cycle and other market events may also help explain those declines.

In other words, history is worth watching — but copying it blindly can be expensive.

🔍 The Bigger Picture

The most important question is not simply which party wins.

It is whether the outcome changes expectations about regulation, government spending, interest rates and the broader economy.

Even a crypto-friendly political environment cannot guarantee rising prices. If liquidity tightens or investors move away from risky assets, Bitcoin can fall despite positive political headlines.

And if Congress becomes divided, that does not necessarily mean every crypto-related policy will stop. Regulators can continue working within their existing authority.

My Take

I would not treat November 3 as a guaranteed turning point for Bitcoin.

Instead, I would watch three things: the election result versus market expectations, developments in crypto legislation, and the reaction of the dollar and US Treasury yields.

The surprise could matter more than the headline result.

What do you think: will the US midterms become a catalyst for Bitcoin’s next major move, or will macroeconomic conditions matter more than politics?
