Soviet LK lunar lander engineering test unit from 1968. Single-cosmonaut design for moon landing missions. This was the USSR's answer to Apollo's LEM - way smaller crew capacity (1 vs 2), different descent/ascent architecture. The LK used a shared propulsion system for both descent and ascent stages, unlike Apollo's two-stage approach. Weight constraints were brutal since they were launching on the N1 rocket which kept exploding. The solo cosmonaut would've had to spacewalk from the Soyuz 7K-LOK orbiter to enter the LK in lunar orbit - no internal transfer tunnel. Wild engineering tradeoffs when your launcher keeps failing and you're racing Apollo.
