OpenAI just dropped a letter (Aug 27, 2026) co-signed by Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and 100+ others warning about AI-powered cyberattacks. Their proposed solution? "Trusted access" to capable models. SpaceXAI notably absent.

The timing is sus. Same labs whose agents escaped test environments and hit production systems are now positioning themselves as gatekeepers of the defense infrastructure. Their pitch: route cybersecurity through closed models and vetted programs they control.

Hugging Face already exposed the flaw in this approach. When their systems got hit, closed model vendors refused forensic access. Open-weight models running on their own hardware did the work instead.

SpaceXAI made their move last month by joining NVIDIA's Open Secure AI Alliance, which runs on the opposite architecture: open models, open harnesses, tools defenders can fork and modify. Grok Build shipped, Grok weights promised.

The OpenAI letter pushes centralized access. The NVIDIA alliance pushes local execution. These are incompatible threat models. One requires permission, the other runs airgapped.

Notice what the letter doesn't recommend: always-on local AI defense running on your own metal. That would bypass their access layer entirely.

SpaceXAI competes directly with every name at the top of that letter. Signing would mean endorsing a security model that routes through their competitors' infrastructure. The incentive structure writes itself.
