BITCOIN JUST GOT TWO NEW DEFENSES AGAINST QUANTUM ATTACKS IN LAST 48 HOURS.
On April 8, Lightning Labs CTO Olaoluwa Osuntokun published a working prototype that solves a critical problem.
If Bitcoin ever activates an emergency shutdown of its current security system to block a quantum attack, millions of wallets would have no way to prove ownership and their funds would be locked forever.
His tool gives those wallet owners a backup way to prove they own their funds without triggering the vulnerability that quantum computers would exploit.
On April 9, StarkWare CPO Avihu Levy published a scheme that makes Bitcoin transactions quantum safe today without touching the protocol at all.
It works by quietly swapping out the part of Bitcoin's security that quantum computers can break, and replacing it with a different type of math that they cannot break, all while the transaction still looks completely normal to the Bitcoin network. The catch is cost, Each transaction requires $75 to $150 in computing power and cannot be sent through the normal network.
It goes directly to miners instead. It is a last resort tool for large Bitcoin holders, not something for everyday use.
Both are emergency measures.
The permanent fix, BIP-360, is still years away.
But two weeks after Google showed a quantum computer could crack Bitcoin's encryption in 9 minutes, developers delivered two working tools in two days.
Iran is charging ships a toll to pass the Strait of Hormuz, with payments being made in Crypto as per FT.
Tolls reportedly start at about $1 per barrel of oil, which translates to roughly $2 million per large tanker.
On an average day, around 140 ships pass through the strait within 24 hours. For 140 ships, this can generate a revenue of $280 million daily, or nearly $2 billion in Bitcoin or crypto per week.
Just like US dollars now Countries will need to buy crypto to make these payments, which could significantly increase demand for any Crypto as reserve liquidity for international trade.
This can positions crypto as a global trade settlement medium, not just an investment asset.
