I was heading out one afternoon. I had a plan. I knew what time I would leave, which route I would take and how long it would take me. I thought I had everything under control.

Then halfway there my car stopped. Just like that. At first I thought it was nothing, a small problem that I could fix quickly.. Minutes passed and it wouldn’t start. I kept looking at my watch and staring at the road. Nothing worked the way I expected. I started to feel frustrated and disappointed. I felt like all my planning had been for nothing.

I sat on the roadside just sitting, thinking and waiting. And then it hit me. Do I really control everything? Clearly I didn’t control my car. The car breaking down was proof of that.. I had assumed everything would go as I planned. I do that often. We take things for granted. Assume they will work out without proof or checking.

Then it clicked. I act the way in crypto and Web3. I tell myself to verify. I rarely do. I connect wallets approve transactions and use platforms without understanding them. I trust them just because they seem okay.

That’s when I found Sign Network. At first I thought it was another project.. As I looked closer I realized it’s solving a problem we face every day. One we rarely admit exists.

Je sortais un après-midi. J'avais un plan. Je savais à quelle heure je partirais, quel itinéraire je prendrais et combien de temps cela me prendrait. Je pensais avoir tout sous contrôle.

Puis, à mi-chemin, ma voiture s'est arrêtée. Comme ça. Au début, je pensais que ce n'était rien, un petit problème que je pourrais réparer rapidement.. Les minutes passaient et elle ne démarrait pas. Je continuais à regarder ma montre et à fixer la route. Rien ne fonctionnait comme je l'attendais. J'ai commencé à me sentir frustré et déçu. J'avais l'impression que toute ma planification avait été en vain.

Initially, it seemed like nothing was going on. No output, no changes, nothing that would normally make you notice it. I was about to give up. However, for some reason, I decided to stay for a little longer and check it one more time.
Different feelings started to form.
There weren’t any big noises or flashes, but all the systems were running behind the scenes. No extra data, no steps one would not expect to be necessary — just one small process doing the job without drawing attention. That part, I don’t know why, has stayed with me.
Before that, I believed that crypto privacy was all about completely hiding things. i.e. you either reveal everything or hide everything. But this was a different approach that felt more fair. It was not about hiding but rather about deciding on a need-to-know basis what should be visible.
When I explored further, I discovered @MidnightNetwork. The name sounded familiar, yet I never paid any attention to it. However, I felt something different this time. Probably it was because I saw the thing in action instead of only reading about it.
Of course, I’m not suggesting that now I know it all. On the contrary, I do not. Some aspects are still baffling me, and sometimes I even go back and re-read.
Though, I guess it’s part of the learning process.
What I care most about is: this did not seem artificial or exaggerated to me. It was … honest. Simple, but honest.

For now, I’m not at a stage where I know everything. I’m still discovering, else's'> making little slip-ups from time to time. But, in my opinion, that is apt of the process. No part of it seemed hurried, and I kind of liked ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌that.

I still remember those days when it was the worst. I don't understand how time is passing, but everyone around me is doing everything perfectly. I somehow became accustomed to seeing and thinking about these things constantly.

The first days were incredibly tough. I believed that I would code, execute and that would be the end of it. But here, everything is constantly changing- what works today might not work tomorrow. Initially, it was frustrating but I soon acknowledged the fact that the continuous change is where the real learning is.
One night I decided to begin with a small project. Continuous errors were coming. Initially I was mad but then I looked at these errors as ways to challenge my thinking. I was not only learning for myself but also finding the ways of making the road smoother for others.
After that, I started to make little programs. Initially just simple automations but before long, they became quite handy. What used to take half-an-hour can now be done in just a few minutes. Disseminating these tools made me perceive their usefulness beyond my own work.
In time, I developed Privote, a platform for anonymous voting. Not trusting the counting of the votes fairly is something that is common worldwide. By utilizing the zero-knowledge technology on the Midnight Network, I was able to establish a secure and private voting system. It was less than perfect as I was tested by network updates and integration issues but it worked and that was significant.
I heard loud and clear one thing: perfection is not a prerequisite—commencing is the top priority. Even if the contributions are tiny, the help given to others and the construction of tools—these are what produce real impact, and often, no one even notices.
At the moment, I am working on a browser-based Midnight playground where one can write Compact code and run a test without requiring the installation of anything.
