Yesterday's CPI was supposed to be the scary one. Then today happened.

At 17:30 PKT, US producer prices landed like a punch: headline PPI up 1.3% in a single month — double what anyone expected — and 6.3% year-on-year, the hottest since December 2022. The number that actually matters, core PPI, printed 0.7% against a 0.3% forecast. It didn't just beat. It doubled.

And $BTC... barely moved.

Bitcoin was sitting near $80,900 when the data dropped. Three minutes later it was at $80,600. A 0.4% wobble. The $80K line held. That is the story tonight — not the hot print, but the shrug that followed it.

So what actually happened?

First, the fear was already paid. Bitcoin had already slid nearly 3% on the day before the print, after yesterday's hot CPI. Traders walked into 17:30 PKT braced for the worst. When the worst showed up, there was nobody left to panic.

Second, look under the hood of the "hot" number. Energy did the damage: gasoline up 20.3% in a month, final-demand energy up 10.8%. Strip out food and energy, and goods inflation actually slowed. Retail sales told the same story — headline up 0.8% beat forecasts, but spending excluding gasoline rose just 0.2%, and the control group that feeds GDP crawled 0.1%. The consumer isn't booming. The gas pump is just expensive.

Third — and this is the part the headlines will miss — the bond market disagreed with the panic. The 10-year yield actually FELL after the hot PPI, as money ran to Treasuries on AI-credit fears. And October hike odds? Stuck near 34%, barely moved from before the print. The market is saying December is the real fight, not October.

That doesn't mean we're out of the woods. Core PPI at 5.0% year-on-year is real, services rose 0.8%, and the Fed decides on 28 October — one day BEFORE the PCE data it actually trusts arrives. Fed Chair Warsh speaks tonight, his last word before blackout. $ETH is still the beta play here: it fell harder than Bitcoin on the day, and it will likely move harder in either direction from here.

Levels that matter for $BTC: $80K is the floor the whole market is watching — a clean break below it opens the liquidation cluster sitting just underneath. Reclaim $82-83K, and the relief trade is back on. Until then, this is chop into FOMC. Check the $BTC chart here and watch how it holds $80K into the decision.

The hottest PPI print in years just landed — and the market yawned. That tells you more than the number itself.
